Bruxism treatment

Teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) is an involuntary action during which the teeth of the upper and lower jaw rub against each other outside of chewing and swallowing.

Bruxism can have various causes – a malocclusion, the position of the jaw, poorly performed fillings or prosthetics. However, one of the most common causes of teeth grinding is stress. The most typical signs of bruxism are worn teeth, increased tone of the chewing muscles and pain in the lower jaw joint.

If teeth grinding is caused by muscle tension or an incorrect jaw position, specially adapted exercises and physical training help, so the patient is referred for physiotherapy.
