Teeth whitening
A beautiful, healthy smile is the basis of feeling good and being confident. Yet many people feel uncomfortable about discoloured, yellowish teeth. The shade of the teeth can be affected by genetics, the thickness of the enamel, improper dental care, dental trauma, the use of certain medications, smoking and the consumption of coffee, tea and other staining drinks or foods.
Whitening of the tooth enamel is one of the simplest and most accessible ways to lighten the teeth. Teeth whitening can be carried out safely at the dental office or at home under the supervision of a specialist, using individual trays.
Teeth whitening options
Teeth whitening at home with individual trays
Teeth whitening at home is a convenient and effective way to lighten the teeth at a time that suits the patient. After an impression of the patient’s teeth is taken, individual trays for the upper and lower teeth are made in the dental laboratory, matching their shape exactly. The trays are used with a special whitening gel recommended by the oral care specialist.
In-office teeth whitening with the “Beyond” whitening accelerator
With this method, a special gel is activated by the blue light beam of a high-intensity whitening lamp. The procedure takes 30–50 minutes.
In-office teeth whitening with the advanced “Biolase EPIC” laser
Enamel whitening with the “Biolase Epic X” laser is a safe, fast and exceptionally effective procedure. Laser whitening does not cause tooth sensitivity. Studies have proven that with this method the tooth enamel is not damaged at all and the dental tissue is protected to the maximum. Compared with other in-office whitening systems, this procedure takes less time.
Whitening of individual teeth (whitening of non-vital teeth)
Non-vital teeth are whitened from the inside. A whitening agent is placed into the specially prepared cavity of the tooth crown and closed with a temporary filling. The whitening agent is kept and replaced individually until the desired result is achieved.
Important
Teeth should not be whitened when the enamel is damaged or worn, or in the case of caries, gum inflammation, periodontitis or other gum diseases. Whitening should be postponed if a woman is pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as for those wearing braces and for people under 18. It is important to know that fillings and crowns do not change colour during whitening, so we recommend carrying out all the necessary procedures and treatment after whitening, so that the dentist can match the shade of the fillings or other restorative materials to the colour of the whitened teeth.
