Professional oral hygiene
Professional oral hygiene is a procedure that helps to ensure dental health and to avoid caries and periodontal diseases.
Professional oral hygiene not only improves overall oral health (once plaque and tartar are removed, bleeding and swelling of the gums decrease and the oral cavity is refreshed) – during the procedure existing or impending periodontal diseases and carious lesions are also diagnosed.
If needed, the necessary treatment or preventive measures are recommended to the patient straight away.
Procedure step by step:
Anaesthesia
At the patient’s request, local anaesthesia can be administered before the procedure.
Removal of tartar with an ultrasonic scaler
An ultrasonic scaler and special instruments are used to remove hard plaque and tartar and to eliminate the bacteria in the gum pockets.
Removal of dental and pigmented plaque with the “Air Flow” method
The “Air Flow” method cleans the tooth surface perfectly while protecting the surface of the tooth and the soft tissue. A soda blaster removes the pigmented plaque caused by smoking and by the frequent consumption of coffee, tea and other staining drinks and foods.
Polishing of the tooth surfaces
The surfaces of teeth and fillings are polished with a special paste, increasing their resistance to caries and ensuring less plaque build-up.
Recommendations
We remind you that professional oral hygiene is recommended at least twice a year. If plaque and tartar build up faster, and also in the case of periodontitis, the procedure should be carried out every 3–4 months. To maintain proper oral hygiene at home you need to use not only a toothbrush, but also dental floss, single-tuft and interdental brushes, a tongue cleaner and an irrigator
